Tonya Lewis Lee to Address PSE Students & Parents

On Wednesday, January 20, Tonya Lewis Lee will be visiting Port Salerno Elementary School and we are looking forward to a busy and exciting day with her!  During the day, Ms. Lee will address the students and that evening she will talk to PSE parents, as part of our Parent Speaker Series.

Ms. Lee’s career and personal advocacy work uniquely positions her to resonate both with children and adults alike.  During her extensive career in television, Ms. Lee has created programming for Nickelodeon and recently co-wrote the screenplay for The Watsons Go to Birmingham and also served as the film’s Executive Producer.  Ms. Lee is also a children’s author.  Her titles include:  Please Baby Please (2002), Please Puppy Please (2004), and Giant Steps to Change the World (2011).  In her advocacy work, Ms. Lee has worked to reduce infant mortality by partnering with the Office of Minority Health, a division of the DHHS, and she has also produced a documentary on the subject, entitled, Crisis in the Crib: Saving Our Nation’s Babies.

Finally, in addition to her talks, we are thrilled that she is supporting our program, Port Salerno Reads, by handing out home libraries to all of the PSE second graders during her visit!  Each child will be receiving 10 Scholastic books to take home and keep.

This event is not open to the public.
