Beloved Author & Illustrator of Arthur
We are thrilled that Marc Brown is returning to PSE! This year, he will not only serve as a speaker in our Speaker Series, but he will also serve as an artist-in-residence for our Arts in Education program where he will be working with the students.
As an author and illustrator, Mr. Brown has accomplished a rare feat in children’s literature: he has created a character who is loved not only by children, but also by parents and teachers alike. Arthur, the eight year-old aardvark, is the star of many of Marc Brown’s books and a television show of the same name. But, despite being an aardvark, Arthur is very relatable to his readers. Arthur deals with real-life problems that children face, like arguments with friends and bullies. Mr. Brown says on his website, “Arthur is in the business of trying to make children successful.” And, he does this by helping children learn how to address social and emotional issues they face with both understanding and integrity. The Arthur books have graced the New York Times Bestseller list and the PBS show has won several Emmys and The George Foster Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
Mr. Brown also frequently works as an illustrator with other authors, including his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. And, he most recently illustrated, Little Shop of Monsters, with R.L. Stine.
This event is not open to the public.
