Award-winning Mixed Media Artist
Patricia Greene is an award-winning artist who will serve as Port Salerno Elementary School’s artist-in-residence year. She will work with the students for one week on a Day of the Dead themed project and the week will culminate with a parade through the school.
Ms. Greene’s work has evolved over the last decade. She works in mixed media, incorporating all kinds of material including paper, wood, fabric, plastic, metal, wire, concrete and mosaics. She often combines traditional weaving techniques with an array of textural investigations –using a variety of materials ranging from natural fibers to metal and plastic –shattering misconceptions about the use of textile in art.
Ms. Greene’s three-dimensional sculptures woven in wire range from life size to intimate statements. The imagery is drawn from nature, dreams, inner feelings, and personal hieroglyphs to suggest her visceral determination of being alive. She examines these visions through the exploration and effects of
transparency, light, form and texture.
One of her main concerns as an artist relates to the environment and the waste of our natural resources. Thus, many of her projects motivate a new ecological consciousness by recycling trash and using found objects as part of her materials.
She has worked in collaboration with others artists in ephemeral and permanent projects in Mexico and the United States. She is intrigued by the artist’s process and the relation between everyday life and art.
