Income-geared Housing

American social activist and educator Geoffrey Canada demonstrated that a society can’t create change by working with just one piece of the puzzle.  Educators everywhere now recognize that a secure and stable home life is essential to a child’s ability to perform well in school.

To that end, Eli’s House is building safe, well-designed homes that make it easier to create and support a culture of reading and learning for the entire family.  But, our goal is more than just putting a roof over a family.  Designed to be short-term rentals by families, the families staying in our homes will also be supported with inspirational programs like how to start a business and/or go back to school.  The ultimate goal is to help the families move successfully on to the next chapter in their lives, and thus, more long-term housing.

Eli’s House is embarking on this goal by building two income-geared, high quality, sustainable houses.   And, we recently purchased eight more plots of land for additional homes in the near future!  The homes will be constructed by Peter Wilson, a second-generation Martin county home builder with a reputation for innovative design and solid construction. All homes will feature durable, environmentally conscious materials and energy efficient appliances, which will keep future operating costs affordable.

Because all children deserve a nurturing and safe place to come home to after school, and families deserve every opportunity to reach their potential, we look forward to handing over the keys to these homes very soon!
